Paris Celebrates Courbet, Soutine, and Hell at the Library (2008)
Courbet at the Grand Palais in ParisThis winter in Paris included a trio of museum exhibitions with tangled intersections:  Courbet at the Grand Palais, Soutine at the Pinacothèque de Paris, and l’Enfer (Hell) at the National Library. Call it a perfect triangle of expression, repression, and technique.

Fodor's Guide to The Da Vinci Code (2006)
This engaging, full-color guide ("on the trail of the bestselling novel") profiles the locations, people, historic events, and symbols featured in the novel. Also included: relevant travel information, plus hotel and food recommendations.

Quai des OrfevresThe guide opens with three of my essays, including profiles of the Paris Ritz (where the novel begins) and the Police Judiciaire, the real-life French law enforcement agency — based at Quai des Orfevres — which employs the novel's fictional inspector, Bezu Fache.

Fodor's Paris 2006 guide
For the latest incarnation of the popular Paris guide, I authored part of the "Exploring" chapter, as well as the "Sports & The Outdoors" chapter.

For the Exploring chapter, I tackled the Left Bank, Île St-Louis, and Île de la Cité, detailing such things as the gargoyle-lined ramparts of Notre Dame, a coherent strategy for getting through the Louvre in an afternoon or day, when to visit the Eiffel Tower (or Tour Eiffel for you French diehards). I also updated information on everything from the Musée du Vin, devoted to wine, to the Musée de la Marine, devoted to France's maritime history.

For the Sports chapter, I revisited the city's health clubs, spas, and bike rental shops, investigated the latest on bike lanes and jogging routes, and more.

Fodor's Paris 2005 guide
For the 2005 edition of the popular Paris guide, I authored the "Sports & The Outdoors" chapter, investigating Art Nouveau pools, racetracks in the outer arrondissements, the best places to jog, where to find boules (pétanque) players battling it out on city pitches, and more.

In the "Books & Movies" section, I profiled a range of films, French or otherwise, set in Paris, including drama, children's films, musicals, and other essential pre-Paris-visit viewing. For books, I included a broad cross-section of Paris-related fiction, food writing, children's literature, history, and memoirs.
